Buddy Miles, de mede-oprichter en drummer van Jimi Hendrix' Band Of Gypsys is op 26 februari in zijn woonplaats Austin (Texas) op 60-jarige leeftijd overleden. Na een voortdurende hartziekte is hij in het bijzijn van zijn familie overleden. Zijn carri�re begon toen hij nog maar 11 jaar was in zijn vaders band The Bebops. Zijn bijnaam kreeg hij van zijn tante, omdat hij een groot fan was van Buddy Rich.
"It is with tremendous sadness that we must share with all Buddy's fans around the world that Buddy passed away peacefully and quietly at his home last night (Tuesday, February 26, 2008) in Austin, Texas surrounded by his family. Buddy will be greatly missed as a wonderful person and as a truly gifted musician who gave so much to so many through the years.
The family ask for your prayers and that you respect their privacy. A tribute show will be announced within a short period of time and all are welcome to come and share in the magic that was Buddy Miles.
Fans, friends and family will all join in a celebration of the life and music of this talented and big hearted musician, so we hope everyone can be a part of this fond farewell."

Grote namen die tot zijn referenties behoren zijn onder andere The Delfonics, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, Muddy Waters, Barry White, David Bowie, George Clinton, Santana en Bootsy Collins.
In 49 jaar speelde hij 70 albums in, deed 6 wereldtournees, veel televisiespecials, radio- en tv-commercials en speelde in veel music videos voor televisie.
Naast zijn werk bij de Band of Gypsys met Jimi Hendrix en Billy Cox, wordt hij ook gezien als een Co-founding father van fusion rock met de band Electric Flag.
Meer hoogtepunten in zijn carri�re zijn de California Raisins commercial, een van de meest succesvolle reclames in de Amerikaanse televisiegeschiedenis. Hij produceerde en speelde op drie albums van de dansende rozijnen.
Daarnaast speelde hij voor charitatieve organisaties die hulp bieden aan orkaan- en rampenslachtoffers en speelde hij voor The Children's Craniofacial Association.
