Martin Verdonk is a super talented, fusion jazz artist...

This is solid jazz fusion from a World-class percussionist and music educator, a fact you'll recognize immediately upon hearing the first few beats and notes of track one. Dutchman Martin Verdonk (he was actually born in Curacao in the Dutch Antilles) is a seasoned veteran of the World stage, and includes recordings with Steve Winwood and Incognito in his resume...and that's only scratching the surface. Add this experience and savvy to a forward-thinking frame of mind and the result is a really fresh, hot collection of performances that will no doubt have you wanting to crank the volume up...way up! While this album is definitely percussion-driven, with Latin rhythms in the forefront (You've gotta get into "Cha Cha for Katia," Santiago," and the amazing "Descarga in Europe".), the musicians Martin surrounds himself with here easily match the high caliber of his playing, and the result is an awesome collection of totally solid material.
No filler here...just the real deal...all originals from Martin and his compatriots, and all mega-engaging and energetic. Even the ballads have a quiet energy to them. "Dolores" and "Esperanza" are beautiful, and have an intensity that will remind you of Santana. (There's reason for that as the project features former Santana rhythm section members, Orestes Vilato and Walfredo Reyes.)
If you're into great fusion, played at a level "10," then Martin Verdonk's 2nd release, OLD SCHOOL NEW SOUND is definitely a "must have" for your music collection
