Elvis-drummer Dominic Joseph "DJ" Fontana, Metallica, Jeff Beck en Run-DMC behoren tot de artiesten die dit jaar zijn opgenomen in de Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. De feestelijke ceremonie vond 4 april plaats in Cleveland, Ohio.
Joel Peresman, oprichter en directeur van de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, verklaart dat de kersverse uitverkorenen goed weergeven waar de Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame voor staat:
"This year’s class of inductees truly represents what the Hall of Fame is all about. From classic artists that began their careers in the 50’s and 60’s to those that have defined the modern sound of rock and roll. These artists demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself. We are proud to honor these artists and celebrate their contribution to rock and roll’s place in our culture.”
DJ Fontana
Drummer DJ Fontana verzorgde veertien jaar lang de grooves voor Elvis Presley. Hij voegde zich bij Scotty Moore (gitaar), Bill Black (bas) en Elvis Presley (gitaar en zang). Samen traden ze op als The Blue Moon Boys. DJ is te horen op vrijwel alle Elvis Presley's hits uit de jaren '50, waaronder Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, Don’t Be Cruel en Jailhouse Rock. De drummer tourde bovendien de wereld rond met Elvis en trad op tijdens alle televisieopnames tussen 1956 en 1957. Zijn drumspel vormde het fundament voor rock and roll-slagwerk en was van invloed op latere drummers als Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts en Max Weinberg.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
De artiesten die in 2009 zijn opgenomen in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame werden gekozen door 600 vertegenwoordigers uit de Amerikaanse muziekindustrie. Artiesten komt uitsluitend in aanmerking voor opname als het meer dan 25 jaar geleden sinds zij hun eerste plaat uitbrachten.
