Sting krijgt 'MusiCares 2004 Person of the Year' Award

Het lijkt erop dat Sting in de prijzen blijft vallen. Zo kreeg hij recentelijk de Billboard Century Award uitgreikt en kon hij een lintje ophalen bij het Britse koninklijk huis.

Over deze award zegt Sting:

"MusiCares looks after musicians who are less fortunate than people like myself: people who are on hard times who have given their services to the industry and have fallen foul of circumstances, people on the street or with drug problems or whatever. You call MusiCares up and they say, 'Well, what do you need? Your rent paid? Your rehabilitation program?' I think it's important work. So I'm the figurehead this year, and I'm very proud to do that."

Op het gala, gehouden in de Sony Pictures Studio in California, spelen onder andere Tony Bennett, Elvis Costello, Elton John en Dave Matthews. Artiesten die Sting zijn voorgegaan als MusiCares Award winnaar zijn: John, Bennett, Bono (zanger U2), Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Quincy Jones, Phil Collins en Stevie Wonder.
