Beastie Boys brengen instrumentaal album uit

Mike D: "Geen computers, geen zang, geen samples"

Er staat geen zang op en evenmin samples, aldus de beastie Boy. Mike D verklaart dat ze in tegenstelling tot hun vorige album geen computers hebben gebruikt, maar ouderwetse intrumenten als drums en gitaar:

"Any record we make is always about combining different ideas or different influences we have, and then with this record, it's an instrumental album. There are no vocals, no samples. We played everything. On 'To the 5 Boroughs', we all put down the instruments and sat behind the computers and made music that way. For this record, we went 180 again and said, 'Okay, let's not sit behind the computers. Let's just play some music together and kind of see what happens that way."

Het komende album bevat naast live drums ook een bijdrage van de vaste Beastie Boys-percussionist Alfredo Ortiz (ook bekend van onder meer Sheila Nicholls en Tenacious D). Mark Ramos-Nishita, beter bekend als Money Mark, is een andere bekende gastmuzikant.

Hoewel de Beasties 'The Mix-Up' als een "post-punk instrumental" album omschrijven, zijn ze niet van plan om voorgoed van vocalen af te zien. Sterker nog, de heren hebben plannen om het album in een andere versie uit te brengen waarop "een vrij brede verzameling van voornamelijk nieuwere zangers" is te horen.
