Studying a lot of stuff that Rick Latham wrote back in the 80's, I got inspired by it!

I came up with the idea to use some fill-ins in a groove, to get a more Latin-funky sound. The double strokes I am using here are very open and played staccato, so it sounds clear what I am doing.

The settings aren't too difficult, however it is of main importance that you play slowly in the beginning, to get 100% control over every note you play.

Don't approach the double strokes as ghostnotes! They should be played pretty loud.

To get a percussive sound on the hihat, be sure to give a certain pressure to the hihat pedal, and play with the tips of you stick!

I am showing you only the following order of every note and hand, played on hihat and snare only. Try to get basic idea and use it on your own drumkit, with your own choice of instrument combinations. You'll find that it will only sound better, if you put in a lot of your own combinations.

Next month you'll see and hear what I've done with it.

In the mean time have a lot of fun trying this stuff, and don't forget to "tune in" next session, ok?

CAN U GROOVE IT?....... YES YOU CAN!!
