Santana wil trio op volgende album

Na drie succesvolle albums vol opvallende samenwerkingen met een grote hoeveelheid gastmuzikanten wil Carlos Santana in 2008 een andere weg inslaan.
Santana heeft producer Bill Laswell om hulp gevraagd voor 'The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost'.
De nieuwe driedubbel-cd moet Santana's waaier aan muzikale invloeden weerspiegelen. Aan Billboard.com vertelt Santana:
"We still love (John) Coltrane and Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye. So that music is gonna get in there. And Paco de Lucia ... very Spanish."
Hoewel de basis dus bestaat uit een trio, kan Santana het toch niet laten om Wayne Shorter, Pharaoh Sanders, Kenny Garrett en anderen om een kleine gastbijdrage te vragen. Santana:
"I have yet to do a trio band, so this is my opportunity to do kind of like a Tony Williams trio thing. It's a trio with other colors; we're gonna bring other musicians in, singers and stuff like that."
Santana hoopt het album af te hebben voor de zomer van 2008, al is een releasedatum nog niet vastgesteld.
Onlangs vatte Santana zijn carrièrehoogtepunten samen met de release van 'Ultimate Santana' via platenlabel Arista. De focus op deze verzamelaar ligt met name op de albums 'Supernatural', 'Shaman' en 'All That I Am'. Santana noemt de collectie een vorm van muzikale gezinshereniging:
"Its kind of like a family reunion; all the songs are either sisters or brothers or children. All I can think of is God is very generous with an incredible, long life and a lot of opportunities for the music that I play and the musicians that I share it with. For me its a positive. Its nothing but a win-win situation."
