Miss Antarctica stopt definitief

Zanger/componist Richey Glass benadrukt dat er geen sprake is van ruzie binnen de band. Meerdere factoren vormen de reden voor dit plotselinge besluit:

"A mixture of internal emotional/motivational differences, mid-life crises, unexpected band changes and the sudden loss of a rehearsal space which we had been using for years. These elements had taken away the feeling that we were truly operating as a band; as a coherent unit. We always wanted to do something special, and unfortunately we felt that we were getting further away from what we really wanted. Miss Antarctica would like to stress that this were was no question of arguments or other cliché 'band' stuff. We are all still friends. We are all disappointed at having to make this decision after years of hard work, but we saw no other option."

Miss Antarctica bracht een half jaar geleden nog haar debuutalbum 'Lost Electricity' uit via het Engelse label Island. Het album kreeg overal lovende kritieken en de band speelde meerdere keren in de Amsterdamse poppodia Paradiso en Melkweg en deed shows met bands als Nine Black Alps, Snow Patrol en Dredg. Afgelopen 5 mei was Miss Antarctica nog te zien op het Overijsselse Bevrijdingsfestival, naast o.a. The Sheer, Gem, Infadels en zZz.

De band wil verder iedereen bedanken die de laatste maanden zo hard aan of voor de band gewerkt hebben. Glass zegt hierover:

"Miss Antarctica would like to thank all people who believed in us or cared about us. You know who you are. This has meant more to us than you will ever know. Hopefully, there will be new musical projects which rise like a phoenix from the ashes of this band. Music is in our blood. And there are no real ends, just beginnings."

Voor iedereen die nog een laatste keer wil genieten van Miss Antarctica's muziek; de band speelt 30 mei in Doornroosje (Nijmegen), 31 mei in 013 (Tilburg), 1 juni in Nighttown (Rotterdam) en 4 juni in de Vera (Groningen) als supportact van Keith Caputo.
