Gene Hoglan onthult details over instructie-dvd
Drummer wil wereld rond touren met clinics

Drumgigant Gene Hoglan, bekend van onder andere Strapping Young Lad, Death, Testament en Dark Angel, heeft voldoende filmmateriaal verzameld voor zijn allereerste instructie-dvd. De komende twee maanden worden alle opnames gemonteerd. De release moet volgens Hoglan in juni verschijnen.
"Mechanism definitely shows off tons of what I can do on the tubs. I've been explaining this band as an example of what is probably the craziest drumming I've done in my career, so why not introduce ourselves to people in a rather unorthodox way? My playing on it I suppose is reminiscent of my 'Symbolic' era [with the band Death], with a ton more crazy time-signatures and heap-loads of blast beats. I like it alot, and I'm proud to showcase us in such a fashion."
Hoglan legt uit dat hij met zijn dvd wil afwijken van de gangbare instructie-dvd's, waarin het drumwerk vaak indrukwekkend goed is, maar de uitleg nogal saai:
"I must admit, I'm not a real watcher of instructional DVDs/tapes. I've seen my share, in fact my favorite is 'Pulse' by Akira Jimbo, but even back in the day, I never watched them religiously. They all sorta seemed the same. Killer drumming, boring guy. Deen Castronovo injected a bit of life into his, which was very cool, and that's what I tried to do with mine. I don't envision mine to be one of those 'talking head/explaining wing-wang-flam-a-doodles,' 'cuz I'm not very good at that. What I do envision for this to become is more of an 'instructo-doc.'"
Eerder verklaarde Gene Hoglan al dat hij eigenlijk zijn eigen 'Hoglan-methode' had willen introduceren:
"It's gonna be kick-ass! Just me playin' and preachin' 'The Hoglan Method' ('The Hoglan Method', that's hiliarious! "Okay kid, ya wanna learn how to play drums? Well, first off, put down your sticks for six months, and learn to master juggling! It'll be great for your chops. No, really!)."
Uiteindelijk speelt Hoglan 8-9 volledige nummers, waaronder composities van Mechanism. De drummer wijkt zelfs af van het vertrouwde metal-pad en speelt stukken van niet-metalprojecten die hij heeft gedaan en enkele drumsolo's.
Daarnaast werkt Gene Hoglan aan een wereld-clinic-tour. Hij is van plan om met 35 to 40 clinics te beginnen in de VS, waarna hij eenzelfde aantal geeft in Europa, om vervolgens af te reizen naar Zuid-Amerika, Australi� en te eindigen in Japan en Zuid-Korea.
