Spineshank-drummer geeft update

Nadat zanger Jonny Santos de groep in januari 2004 verliet als gevolg van 'muzikale meningsverschillen', ontstond een lastige situatie die behoorlijk wat frustratie opleverde. De achtergebleven muzikanten zochten een nieuwe zanger met dezelfde kwaliteiten, maar niet konden vinden. Decker schrijft:

"We had been through tons of singers and were pretty frustrated with the whole situation, so a couple of months off really helped clear our heads."

In de tussentijd is de slagwerker samen met gitarist Mike Sarkisyan de studio ingedoken. Niet om zelf nummers op te nemen, maar als producent voor andere muzikanten.

Nu blijkt Spineshank eindelijk een geschikte opvolger te hebben gevonden, al geeft de groep nog geen naam prijs totdat ook juridisch alles is afgerond. Decker:

"A lot of these guys could've easily done the job of continuing Spineshank where we left off, but we want more than that. So we held off until we found someone that we really clicked with. We've been working with someone for a while now and it's going really good (no names yet because of the legal bullshit). It has all the elements that Spineshank has always had, but it doesn't sound like Spineshank. We've never liked to repeat ourselves and have always expanded our sound after every record and this time is no different. The fact that there is a different voice singing over the music is obviously going to make a huge difference, and we are obviously in a different place musically than we were when we wrote [2003's] 'Self-Destructive Pattern'."

De formatie denkt er zelfs over na om de bandnaam te veranderen als blijkt dat de huidige muziek te veel afwijkt van eerder werk.

In mei 2004 werd Spineshank genomineerd voor een Grammy Award in de categorie 'Best Metal Performance'. De onderscheiding ging uiteindelijk naar Metallica.
